The collaboration between Italy and Cameroon continues: starting, in Yaoundé, the course on international crimes, organized by the Sant'Anna School with the support of the Farnesina and the collaboration of local counterparts

The cooperation activity between Italy and Cameroon continues thanks to the new advanced training course on international crimes (Yaoundé, March 20-23, 2023), for the benefit of local magistrates, organized by the Sant'Anna School, thanks to the decisive support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and promoted in collaboration with the Cameroon Ministry of Justice and hosted by ENAM (École Nationale d'Administration et de Magistrature). The training program, divided into four days of educational activities, aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of local magistrates on the tools, theoretical and practical, of international criminal law and the different mechanisms that can be explored for the repression of international crimes, with specific reference to the national, regional and international legal framework and through the in-depth study of case studies.
The course includes, among others, Flavia Lattanzi, professor of International Law at Università Roma Tre and Judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, and Apollin Koagne Zouapet, legal officer of the International Court of Justice, as lecturers. The opening ceremony of the course was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Cameroon, Filippo Scammacca del Murgo, who had the opportunity to greet the participants, appreciate their interest in the topics covered and renew his gratitude for these important opportunities for learning, dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.
The organization of the course is part of the project "Strengthening the judicial systems of African countries through training" (2022-2023), funded by MAECI and with the scientific coordination of Andrea de Guttry, professor of International Law at the DIRPOLIS (Law, Politics, Development) Institute of the Sant'Anna School. The new edition of the 2022-2023 project is in continuity with the training and capacity-building activities in favor of the judiciary in Sahelian countries already undertaken during the projects funded by MAECI in previous years (2018-2022) and includes several in-depth studies on specific topics with the participation of Italian and African experts and academics. The next educational initiatives will take place in May (Niger, Chad, Cameroon), June (Niger, Mali, Chad) and in distance mode in October.
