With: Michele De Luca, full professor of Biochemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (since 2004), director of the “Stefano Ferrari” Regenerative Medicine Centre and scientific director of Holostem Advanced Therapies S.r.l. (since 2008) and director of the Interdepartmental Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Centre (since 2010).

The lectio magistralis by Professor De Luca will give an overview on stem cells and their clinical applications in regenerative medicine. After a general introduction on the biology of stem cells, he will describe some examples of advanced cellular and gene therapies. These are based on cultures of autologous epithelial stem cells, which are used to regenerate the eye surface and to cure severe genetic diseases affecting the skin.
