Proximity Care

Proximity and technological innovation for the network of social and health protection of the internal areas in the Province of Lucca

Proximity Care is the project funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca (with an investment of 5 million euros between 2022 and 2026) to promote the improvement of health, social and socio-health services in the "internal areas" of the province of Lucca.
The project stems from the awareness of the lack of quality services in the social-health field in conditions of proximity to the citizen, especially in the internal areas of Italy. In line with the provisions of the PNRR (National Plan for Recovery and Resilience), the project aims to develop "a new health strategy, supported by the definition of an adequate institutional and organizational structure, which allows Italy to achieve quality standards of care, in line with the best European countries".
The key concept of the project is the "proximity to the citizen", i.e. the ability to ensure in every part of the territory, the possibility to use services of excellence.

The role of Sant'Anna School

The project is divided into an initial study phase in which the types and efficiency of services and the potential for improvement in terms of connectivity and technological updating will be carefully verified.
The Proximity Care project must be able to offer answers, understood as best practices, measurable in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability and replicability in other areas, which will concern methodological and technological innovation, attention to the centrality of the patient and multidisciplinary approach. The scope of intervention concerns the right to health, to be understood in its broadest sense of social welfare, with regard to social care, health and social health, so as to make the Lucca area a reference model in the national panorama.

The project involves professors, researchers, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students from the various Institutes, working in different disciplinary fields, and also foresees the collaboration of the Azienda Toscana Nord Ovest (ATNO), the Region of Tuscany, the Research Center on the Third Sector "Maria Eletta Martini" and the Gabriele Monasterio Foundation.
