Countering corruption: the potential of analytical tools between availability of big-data sources, privacy constraints and interoperability needs" at the center of a workshop scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 to Saturday, Oct. 7, at Sant'Anna School
The objective of the scientific event is to compare research groups dealing with the quantitative analysis of the phenomenon of corruption
"Countering Corruption. The potential of analysis tools between availability of big-data sources, privacy constraints and interoperability needs" is the workshop scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7, in the Aula Magna Storica of the Sant'Anna School, promoted by the Institutes of Economics, the DirPolis (Law, Politics, Development) and the L'EMbeDS Department of Excellence of the Sant'Anna School, in cooperation with the LePa (Legality and Participation) and the CO.R.E. (Corruption Risk Indicators in Emergency, Grant agreement no. 101038790) project of the University of Perugia. The event is sponsored by the Italian Statistical Society (SIS) and the Association for Applied Statistics (ASA) and aims to bring together research groups dealing with the quantitative analysis of the phenomenon of corruption.
Some of the crucial issues discussed during the workshop are the potential and opportunities of a multidisciplinary approach to measurement and assessment of the corruption phenomenon, integrating legal, statistical-computational, political and sociological knowledge; availability and interoperability of information sources, such as ANAC and ISTAT databases, statistics and judicial sources; cognitive opportunities offered by the integration of "big data" sources; and the function and significance of indicators in the development and orientation of strategies, national and especially global, for governance of the corruption phenomenon. Over the two days, the agenda will also include discussion and debate on "Evidence-based policy"; "The Struggle for Indicators" in the international scenario and multilateral forums; issues pertaining to the privacy of data, used for measurement and assessment of the corrupt phenomenon; and the role of stakeholders in guiding research and tools for measuring the phenomenon.
The round table on Saturday, October 7 (11.30 a.m.) will see the participation of Consigliere Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Francesca Recanatini (World Bank), Ignazio Drudi (University of Bologna), Fabrizio Sbicca (ANAC), Enrico Carloni (University of Perugia) and Benedetto Ponti (University of Perugia) to discuss the results achieved so far and, above all, outline the prospects for developing research to arrive at an increasingly effective fight against corruption.
