The Italian Institute of Technology funds six scholarships as part of the PhD in BioroboticsThe collaboration between the two research institutes involves three research lines, each of which finances two scholarships: the  Soft BioRobotics Perception research line with principal investogator Lucia Beccai, the Smart Bio-Interfaces research line with principal investigator Gianni Ciofani and the Bioinspired Soft Robotics research line with principal investigator Barbara Mazzolai.

The six scholarships are in addition to those in the call for applications and represent a further step forward in strengthening the partnership between IIT and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. The students who win the scholarships will carry out research projects supervised by the principal investigators of the three research lines. Below are the titles of the projects and the locations where the PhD research activities will take place:

  • Soft Multimodal sensing technologies: research line Soft BioRobotics Perception, laboratory site Center for Convergent Technologies (CCT), Genoa;
  • Metamaterial-based soft robots for versatile grasping: research line Soft BioRobotics Perception, laboratory site Center for Convergent Technologies (CCT), Genova;
  • Developing and testing of microphysiological systems for advanced in vitro testing: research line Smart Bio-Interfaces, laboratory site Center for Materials Interfaces (CMI@SSSA) Pontedera (PI);
  • Smart nanomaterials for cancer therapy: research line Smart Bio-Interfaces, laboratory site Center for Materials Interfaces (CMI@SSSA) Pontedera (PI);
  • Soft robots for marine environments: research line Bioinspired Soft Robotics, laboratory site Center for Convergent Technologies (CCT) Genoa (Italy);
  • Soft Robots and fabrication technologies across scales: Bioinspired Soft Robotics research line, home of the Center for Convergent Technologies (CCT) Genoa laboratories;
