The Master program in “Italian Wine and Global Market” wine tasting tour event in Sant’Anna School will feature Italian top wine producers and will provide an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of wines and to raise awareness about responsible drinking and moderate wine consumption. Hosted in association with Università per Stranieri di Siena and AIS – Associazione Italiana Sommelier, from December 2017- June 2018, the 13 stops tour will include sensory sessions and wine education activities. Italian wines from Langhe, Trento Doc, Tuscany Chianti, Bolgheri and Val d’Orcia, Friuli and Val d’Aosta (on April 20 a special session will be devoted to “heroic viticulture”) will be featured at the next tasting seminars.

Alessandro Balducci, the master coordinator for external relations and marketing, a sommelier and expert in the field of multi-sensory flavor, will take participants on this tour. He will show how the Italian wine industry has been able to convey to wine consumers the thinking that our wines are perceived and purchased as high added-value products, in terms of quality and diversity.

Recent figures in international reports confirm that the world wine industry is undergoing considerable change. In particular, Italy and European countries are challenged by the emergence of non-EU countries such as China. Therefore, a deeper knowledge of the world of wine and the techniques for analyzing its sensory qualities play a central role. Students of this Master program in “Italian Wine and Global Market”, as the future ambassadors for the Italian wine all over the world will meet the needs of the global market for expertise in wine industry and business.

“We are now focusing on wine tasting seminars that offer rewarding experience and provide the opportunity to learn from the experts. Participants can gain skills that are more valuable and test the theories and concepts they have been introduced to throughout the program. This specific training will empower students and provide them with excellent career possibilities - said the master’s course director Pietro Tonutti, professor of crop physiology at the Institute of Life Sciences.

“The wine tasting seminars offer a comprehensive knowledge of viticulture as well as the tasting of wine at a high academic standard – said Alessandro Balducci. “Wine education mixed with practical exposure can give students a sound basis of ‘made in Italy’ wine industry and future trends. Additionally, it is time for universities to adopt a strategic approach to effective communications when involving young wine consumers. The connection between drinking and health is an increasingly hot topic and our mission is to educate, inform and increase public awareness about responsible drinking. Emphasis is on wine quality rather than quantity”.

The Master Course upcoming events are scheduled as follows:
