The Training Course on Human Rights Protection “International Standards for the Protection of Individuals and Groups: A Training Course for Field Officers Working on Human Rights”, is an annual event organized by Sant’Anna School, the School of Law of University of Addis Ababa and the Egmont Institute – Royal Institute for International Relations – Brussels. This course, funded by EC “Europe’s New Training Initative for Civilian Crisis Management” ENTRi project, will take place in Addis Ababa on February 8-16.

By bringing together academics and experts from all over Europe, the training program aims at strengthening cooperation and capacity-building in the field of human rights at the national and international level. Under the scientific supervision of Professor Andrea de Guttry, director of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics, Development), this ENTRi initiative is co-funded by 12 partners from Member States of the European Union and Switzerland.

This course is designed for human rights officers working in organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and NGOs operating in Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Uganda, Tanzania and Ukraine. Part of the training will be dedicated to identifying best practices, tools and strategies towards capacity building efforts in which civil society supports the organizational development. The training will provide opportunities to exchange experiences with representatives of institutions including the EU, UN and the African Union. Francesca Amendola, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Addisa Ababa, delivered a welcome speech at the opening session on February 8.

“Over the last two decades, Sant’Anna School has provided programs focused on international human rights law and practice – said Andrea de Guttry. This training program in Addis Ababa celebrates the success of our initiatives to promote and uphold human rights and development”.
