Binyam Mekonnen Adera
Bio
Binyam Mekonnen Adera is a PhD candidate in Political Philosophy in the Human Rights and Global Politics Program at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He obtained his MA and BA from Addis Ababa University in Philosophy.
Binyam's research focuses on political philosophy and human rights, intergenerational justice, climate ethics and politics, and globality. He has published some articles and book chapters on these areas.
His PhD research project is “Climate Ethics and Intergenerational Global Justice: A Decolonizing Human Rights Perspective towards Responsibility, Politicization, and Sustainability” under the supervision of Professor Alberto Pirni. The project deals with topics at the core of intergenerational ethics, political philosophy, and law concerning the human rights to sustainable development and global governance structures of generational interactions.

October 12th and 13th, 2023: Participated in the Climate Change and Technology: Ethical Challenges and Normative Responses—2nd Inter-University Conference for Emerging Scholars of St. Anna School of Advanced Studies, University of Graz and Central European University, and presented a paper on “Ethics and Politics of Climate Change, Presentism and Intergenerational Justice.”
May 19th to 23rd, 2023: Participated in the Blended Intensive Program on Kant and German Idealism, organized in cooperation with the University of Bergen (Norway), held at the University of Vechta, Germany. This 3 ECTS module covered presentations and discussions of students’ doctoral projects, presentations, and discussions on core topics, and collective interpretation of two classics in the area of Kant and German Idealism. My presentation topic for Vechta’s conference was “Climate Change and Intergenerational Justice: Transcending Kant’s Universal Moral and Legal Conditions.”
14th June, 2023: Presented a paper on “Climate Justice and Intergenerational Legal Challenges to the Future?” held in Prague, from June 14th to 15th, 2023.
June 12th and 13th, 2023: Attended the EELISA Workshop on “Ways of Water - Ethical, Socio-Economic, Environmental, and Engineering Perspectives on Riverine and Oceanic Commons” held in Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.
April 29th to May 1st, 2022: Paper presented to the ‘In Search of Zara Yacob’ Conference at the University of Oxford, UK.
