After their successful course for Sat'Anna Allievi 'Introduction to Programming in Python', which was held in the 2019-20 a.y. and attracted a very large number of attendees, Daniele and Andrea launched a novel programing and data analysis course for the PhD students in Computer Science of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI), L'Aquila, Italy.

'Introduction to Programming and Data Processing in Python', is a Core course of the PhD program in Computer Science of GSSI, a public Italian university belonging to the group of 'Scuole Superiori Universitarie' like Sant'Anna.

The course introduces the students to data analysis in Python. It first builds the students' toolset by introducing popular Python libraries for data manipulation and visualization (NumPy, Pandas, Sklearn), applied to simple examples on COVID'19 data and finance stock prices. After that, the toolset is applied to a more complex case study regarding the creation of a classifier for benign and malignant breast cancer providing best practices related to developing a Machine Learning pipeline. The course concludes presenting KNIME, a popular python-integrated workflow-based graphical language for computing complex data analysis.
